Week 14: The Apostles Creed - 1st Article: Creation

Memory Work for this week.

The First Article: Creation

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

 What does this mean?

I believe that God has made me and all creatures; that He has given me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members, my reason and all my senses, and still takes care of them. He also gives me clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and home, wife and children, land, animals, and all I have. He richly and daily provides me with all that I need to support this body and life. He defends me against all danger and guards and protects me from all evil. All this He does only out of fatherly, divine goodness and mercy, without any merit or worthiness in me. For all this it is my duty to thank and praise, serve and obey Him. This is most certainly true.

Genesis 1:31  And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Psalm 33:6-9  By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses.

We learn from the 1st article of the creed that God has made all things.   We hear from Dr. Luther in What does this mean that God “still takes care of them”.  God is still actively involved in creation.  He creates life and sustains what He has created.  This week look around in His wonderful creation and take note of all the things He is sustaining to support you in your body and life!
