The Lord’s Prayer: The Fourth Petition days

Reading for Wednesday

Psalm 130: 3-4 

If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? 4 But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

Exodus 16:1-12 

 

Why were the Israelites grumbling against Moses and Aaron? 

 

 How did God remedy the situation?   

  

How much are the people to gather each day? 

 

How much are they to gather on the 6th day? 

 

Why did God only give them enough for each day?      

 

What was God trying to teach them?

Exodus 16: 12-36 

 

What did God provide for the Israelites in the morning? 

 

What did God provide for them in the evening? 

 

Why did God command them not to keep any left over until morning?

 LSC Q 268     Why do we pray to God for daily bread? 

 

Do you pray before meals?    If so why do we do that?        If not what commandment tells us to pray? 

 

 List 10 things that are daily bread.  

 

Psalm 145: 15-16 are a great prayer before meals.   Write out those verses.

Matthew 18: 15-19 

The Fifth Petition 

And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. 

 

Matthew gives us clear instructions when dealing with people who have sinned against us or we have sinned against.   

 

What is the first step in this process?   

 

 How is posting my hurt on social media not following this first step? 

 

What is the second step in the process of forgiving my brother?    

 

Why would I need to take someone else along? 

 

What is the third step in the process of forgiving sins?  

 

Why do we want people to repent of their sins?

Matthew 18: 21-35 

 How much did the first man owe to the King?  

 

 What did the first man ask from the king? 

 

 How did the servant master react to this request? 

 

What did this guy, that was just forgiven a debt so big it was impossible to pay, do to the guy that owed him just a small amount? 

 

What did this man’s friend ask of him?  (vs 29)  

 

What did the first servant do? 

 

What happened when the master found out what the first servant did to the second? 

 

 Write out vs 35. 

 

What will happen to you if you refuse to forgive someone who has hurt or wronged you?   

Wednesday questions from the Catechism on the 5th Petition of the Lord’s Prayer

LSC Q 277   Why do we receive forgiveness in the Absolution, in Baptism, in the Lord’s Supper?   

 

How many times should we ask for forgiveness?   

 

What does David ask for in Psalm 51: 1-2?  

 

Read Psalm 32:1-5   Why are we “blessed”?   

 

LSC Q 279. Is the forgiveness we receive from God dependent on us forgiving others?  

 

God’s Word teaches two complementary truths on this matter.
