Week 25 – The Lord’s Prayer the Sixth and Seventh Petition Days

19 Mar 2020
Kathy Swan
Reading for Wednesday

 The Lord’s Prayer

As the head of the family should teach it in a simple way to his household.

The Sixth Petition

And lead us not into temptation.

What does this mean?

God tempts no one. We pray in this petition that God would guard and keep us so that the devil, the world, and our sinful nature may not deceive us or mislead us into false belief, despair, and other great shame and vice. Although we are attacked by these things, we pray that we may finally overcome them and win the victory.

Mark 14:38  Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

1st Peter 5:8-9  8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

The Seventh Petition

But deliver us from evil.

What does this mean?

We pray in this petition, in summary, that our Father in heaven would rescue us from every evil of body and soul, possessions and reputation, and finally, when our last hour comes, give us a blessed end, and graciously take us from this valley of sorrow to Himself in heaven.

Psalm 50:15 and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”

2nd Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Vocabulary for this week.  Please define these words.

Trouble

Persecution

Temptation
