Psalm 105:1, 23, 37–43

¹Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name;
make known his deeds among the peoples!

²³Then Israel came to Egypt;
Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.

³⁷Then he brought out Israel with silver and gold,
and there was none among his tribes who stumbled.
³⁸Egypt was glad when they departed,
for dread of them had fallen upon it.
³⁹He spread a cloud for a covering,
and fire to give light by night.
⁴⁰They asked, and he brought quail,
and gave them bread from heaven in abundance.
⁴¹He opened the rock, and water gushed out;
it flowed through the desert like a river.
⁴²For he remembered his holy promise,
and Abraham, his servant.
⁴³So he brought his people out with joy,
his chosen ones with singing.

Old Testament Reading Job 13:13–28

¹³“Let me have silence, and I will speak,
and let come on me what may.
¹⁴Why should I take my flesh in my teeth
and put my life in my hand?
¹⁵Though he slay me, I will hope in him;
yet I will argue my ways to his face.
¹⁶This will be my salvation,
that the godless shall not come before him.
¹⁷Keep listening to my words,
and let my declaration be in your ears.
¹⁸Behold, I have prepared my case;
I know that I shall be in the right.
¹⁹Who is there who will contend with me?
For then I would be silent and die.
²⁰Only grant me two things,
then I will not hide myself from your face:
²¹withdraw your hand far from me,
and let not dread of you terrify me.
²²Then call, and I will answer;
or let me speak, and you reply to me.
²³How many are my iniquities and my sins?
Make me know my transgression and my sin.
²⁴Why do you hide your face
and count me as your enemy?

and pursue dry chaff?
²⁶For you write bitter things against me

²⁷You put my feet in the stocks

New Testament Reading John 6:22–40

²²On the next day the crowd that remained on the other side of the sea saw that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with his disciples, but that his disciples had gone away alone. ²³Other boats from Tiberias came near the place where they had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks. ²⁴So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats and went to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.

²⁵When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?” ²⁶Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. ²⁷Do not labor for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.” ²⁸Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” ²⁹Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” ³⁰So they said to him, “Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform? ³¹Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” ³²Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. ³³For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” ³⁴They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.”

³⁵Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. ³⁶But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. ³⁷All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. ³⁸For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. ³⁹And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. ⁴⁰For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
