Greetings to our Members from the Piedmont Valley Food Pantry
We have been very busy and have good news to report to our member churches. With the great help of Katie Harwood we have received a connection with Feeding South Dakota through Our Lady of the Black Hills. This has been a real blessing in many ways. They have donated a large commercial freezer to our Food Pantry and now we are able to purchase some items in quantity at low cost through their distribution center including frozen meat items. They also have been supplementing us with food boxes starting in April while their normal distribution outlets are not open. We provide one per family along with our normal food bags.
Since March when our local churches discontinued regular attendance our donations of food products has been reduced however we have been blessed with a number of cash donations. We have purchased food items not only from Feeding South Dakota but also from the local Dollar Store and from Haggars Grocery to support our local businesses. This is working well at this time to keep our shelves adequately stocked. We sincerely thank all who have supported us with cash, checks, and groceries.
We also must mention our wonderful volunteers from our member churches. They have worked hard and are always ready to do their part to keep this community effort working well.
Our numbers have been up as you may imagine. The month of April really peaked in demand and May has leveled off some. The numbers: January 37 families recd. 50 bags for food; February 24 families recd. 38 bags; March 47 families recd. 59 bags; April 75 families recd. 103 bags; and May 39 families recd. 50 bags.
Our hours of operation are 9AM to Noon on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
We thank everyone for their continued support.
